Building Awareness for a Rotary Club

Who Are the Rotary?

The Rotary club is a global network of over 1 million neighbors, friends, leaders and problem-solvers who unite to take action to create lasting change not only in their community but across the globe. Rotary is People of Action.

The Stony Brook Rotary was founded in 1949 to work together on different projects each year to benefit our youth and our community, touching thousands of people since the club's inception. The Stony Brook Rotary meets every first and third Thursday of the month at The Bench.

Build Stronger Relationships

On a brisk afternoon in February, members gathered to discuss and share ideas on enhancing the Stony Brook Rotary's digital marketing efforts. Here it was discussed how to use social media to increase the Rotary's online presence and showcase their involvement within the Stony Brook Community.

Goals that were discussed were to focus on attracting more local businesses and residents both familiar and un-familiar with the Rotary's mission.

Brian LeDonne from PS Digital was on hand to share invaluable insights and actionable strategies tailored to the club's objectives.

  1. Strategic Messaging: Brian emphasized the importance of crafting messaging that resonates with the local community, highlighting the Rotary's values and impact. By effectively communicating the club's purpose and initiatives through social media platforms, the Stony Brook Rotary can strengthen connections with its target audience.
  2. Rebranding for Local Identity: One significant discussion point was the rebranding of the Stony Brook Rotary to the Three Village Rotary. This strategic move aims to better align the club's identity with its local community and enhance recognition among residents and businesses.
  3. Engagement and Revitalization: With about a dozen attendees present, the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the revitalization of the Rotary. Over lunch at The Bench, participants exchanged ideas on how to breathe new life into the club, leveraging digital marketing as a catalyst for growth and community involvement.
  4. Consistent Branding and Messaging: Alongside the rebranding efforts, maintaining consistent branding and messaging across social media platforms is essential. This ensures clarity and reinforces the club's identity, making it easier for locals to recognize and engage with the Three Village Rotary online.
  5. Community-Centric Content: Brian stressed the importance of creating content that resonates with the local audience. From highlighting community events to showcasing the Rotary's impactful projects, this tailored content fosters connections and drives engagement among residents and businesses alike. While it's important to get engagement (likes, shares and comments) the goal is  to grow awareness for the Rotary, attract more members, participants and partners.

The Stony Brook Rotary will be successful, with thoughtful consistent branding and messaging across all platforms, connect with larger audiences on social media and build awareness for gaining new members through local events in the community.

These building blocks will strengthen the Stony Brook Rotary's awareness and deepen its impact within the community.

September on Long Island: Celebrating National Days and Local Events September is a special time on Long Island, where the last whispers of summer blend with the early hints of fall. It’s a month filled with opportunities for fun, community, and celebration. As we transition into autumn, it’s the perfect time for businesses to engage with their audiences by tapping into both national days and local events. Here’s a look at some of September’s highlights and how your brand can make the most of them. 1. National Self-Care Awareness Month (September) With the hustle and bustle of life, especially as kids head back to school and the holiday season approaches, self-care is more important than ever. September is National Self-Care Awareness Month, a perfect opportunity for brands to promote wellness. Whether you’re in the beauty, wellness, or health industry, this is the time to share tips, products, and services that encourage your audience to take time for themselves. On Long Island, this could also tie into local spa days, wellness retreats, or even quiet walks through the beautiful parks like Caleb Smith State Park Preserve. You can create content around local self-care spots or partner with nearby wellness centers for promotions. 2. Long Island’s Fall Festivals September on Long Island is synonymous with vibrant fairs and festivals that celebrate the changing seasons. The Long Island Garlic Festival at Garden of Eve Organic Farm in Riverhead is a favorite, offering a unique mix of garlicky goodness, local vendors, and family fun. The Long Island Fair at Old Bethpage Village Restoration is another must-visit, showcasing the region’s agricultural heritage with traditional games, crafts, and delicious fair food. These events provide a fantastic opportunity for businesses to get involved. Whether it’s through sponsorships, setting up a booth, or simply creating content around these local traditions, connecting your brand to these beloved events can boost your visibility and community engagement. 3. National Grandparents Day (September 8) Grandparents are the pillars of many families, and this day is dedicated to honoring them. If your brand has a family-oriented focus, consider creating a campaign that celebrates grandparents. Whether it’s through heartwarming stories, discounts, or special events, there’s a lot you can do to show appreciation. Why not encourage your followers to take their grandparents to one of Long Island’s picturesque spots? A day out in places like the Bayard Cutting Arboretum or a stroll along the Port Jefferson Harbor would make for perfect content and a special experience for families. September is a month brimming with opportunities, both nationally and locally, to engage with your audience. From celebrating self-care to diving into Long Island’s rich cultural events, there’s no shortage of ways to connect with your community and make a lasting impact.
